Congratulations to all 16 Rockets players (yes 16!) who represented the East Midlands region at the recent Volleyball England Inter Regional Championships. Held in the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering over May Bank Holiday weekend, the Inter Regionals pit the 9 regions against each other in 4 categories U15 and U17 Boys and U14 and U16 girls. It was a great weekend of volleyball and testament to our junior development programme to see so many Rockets players selected; well done to all those who took part.

The Under 17 boys had a very successful championships, finishing 3rd, possibly the region’s best ever result! They had an opportunity to reach the final, but unfortunately missed out due to lack of experience in the later stages of the competition and strength of South West squad.

The Under 15 boys finished 6th in their competition, and perhaps could have made it to 5th if not for a costly rotation error. The three England cadets in the squad did a fantastic job playing and also supporting the more inexperienced players on court.

The Under 16 girls improved their play as the tournament progressed but unfortunately ended up in 9th place. Due to a lack of competition practice it took a little while for them to understand the systems of play. By the end of the competition however, they looked more comfortable as a team and would have taken a few sets if there had been another day of play.

Representing the East Midlands from Nottingham Rockets Volleyball Club were:

Under 16 Girls  -  Enya Powell,   Ellie Harrison,  Danielle Addae-Boateng,   Evelina Kuzmierz,  Melanie Bierwirth, Ailis Hunter (U18 Rockets / Sheffield VC)

Under 15 Boys  -  Adam Lagerberg,  Peter Newton,  Ieuan Lamb,  George Smith,  Ryan Faulconbridge,  Richard Cawkill.

Under 17 Boys  -  Daniel Harness,  Owen Lamb,  Nick Shardlow,  Greg Shaw.
