Match report from Head Coach Paul Lamb:
For those not at today's National League matches, you missed a real treat.
Nottingham Rockets triumphant - two 3 - 0 wins over Haughton and Northampton Sparks - a good team performance with everyone pulling together. The two outstanding players were Paul and Michele with a great restart and start to their NVL careers. Very solid performances from all three setters in the first match and again (Carl and Owen) in the second. We overpowered Haughton, who are a mix of old and junior players, with team play and consistent serving, hitting and blocking.
Northampton Sparks, although a harder hitting and serving side than Haughton, lacked the consistency and team cameraderie of Rockets and were beaten by the options available to our setters throughout the match and in the tighter situations. In the first two sets scores were even up to 10 points after which we pulled away. In the third Sparks hitting became more effective and the set scores see sawed as each team gained the upper hand until Sparks had a run of serves giving them a 4 point lead, 21 - 17. Rockets did not give in and Paul and Michele supplied the power to pull us back in front 23 - 21, Mattias's consistent serving deserted him, but a couple of team plays later we secured the win 25 - 22.
v Haughton  25 - 8,  25 - 21,  25 - 17,
