Rockets take on Staffs in Cup Semi Finals: NEXT SUNDAY!!

Nottingham Rockets Ladies squad have blasted their way to the National Shield Semi Finals in only their first year in the competition, beating three National league sides convincingly on the way.
The quarter finals were set to be a tough match against Division 1 side Chester and Cheshire West, who beat Rockets 3-0 earlier in the season to knock them out of the main draw. Clear underdogs, no one expected Rockets to win and with the last minute injury to MVP Sharon Nelis, all were a little nervous. Luckily new recruit Jole Martino stpped into the middle position, allowing Christin to move out to 4 and Marta to make her debut as Libero (looking very nice in the white shirt!)
The match started off perfectly, Chester didn't seem to have woken up and Christin and Lucie were picking their spots on the opposition's floor with ease. 25- 17 to Rockets in the first. The second set went much the same way, Chester struggled to find space on our back court as Marta adjusted to the role and picked up seemingly impossible balls tipped on the 3m line. Chester serving errors gave us the edge and we took the second 25-20. In the third, Rockets relaxed and Chester got an early lead with Rockets unable to side out on a tricky rotation. Serving errors crept in and Chester took the set 25 -17 and seemed to think they may have turned the game finally around. But we weren't going to let that happen! In the fourth set, Rockets played some of their best volleyball together so far. Nicole's consistent setting allowed Lucie and Christin to control the game with a high percentage kill rate, and we soon found ourselves 4 points clear with only 4 to make the Semi Finals. Lucie stepped up to serve, shaking off all the previous sets' misses and Chester were unable to control the ball.... anything that did come back, Jole had it covered at the net. Final point, Lucie held her nerve, perfect set to 4 for Christin.... Chester set the ball up... stuff block from Christin. Exit a very shell shocked Chester from the Sports Hall!
Final score: 25-17, 25-20, 17-25, 25-17 to Rockets. MVP Christin Pelzel.
Possibly Rockets best match so far... we can't wait to the next round, with Sharon back in the squad we can be very confident of securing ourselves a spot in the finals. Newcastle Staffs, however, cannot be under estimated. They are flying in Division 2 this season and have a very young squad with two England senior players.
Get down to Jubilee on Sunday and support the girls... 10.30 am match start!!!
